Does GEICO have local agents in Houston? Yes, three kinds now.

The number, the storefront, and a third counter that opened quietly in 2024. Here is the honest map of where GEICO gets bought around here, and I should say it plainly before drawing it. I run the third counter, so I will describe all three honestly, including the two that are not mine.

The answer

Yes, three kinds now. GEICO's phone line still answers around the clock. GEICO's own local agents run offices across Greater Houston, including right here in Spring. And since September 2024 a small group of independent agencies, McDade among the first in the country, can quote and bind GEICO beside the 50+ top Texas carriers we know well. Same company at every counter. Different views of the shelf.

Your mental map was accurate.

For most of a century, GEICO was a phone number. That was the whole invention. No agents, no offices on the corner, just a direct line and a lower price, and it worked so well that generations of Texans memorized a number instead of a name.

So if your map says GEICO lives in your phone, your map was drawn correctly. Two things have simply been added to it. GEICO put its own faces in Houston shopping centers, and in 2024 it opened a door almost nobody noticed, the independent one. Mine.

The three counters, honestly described.

All three sell the same company's policies. What differs is what the person helping you can see while they do it.

The Phone Line

Direct, fast, and always on. For a simple household that already knows exactly what it wants, the original counter still does the job it invented.

The GEICO Storefront

GEICO's own local agents, independently owned offices wearing the GEICO name across Greater Houston, offering auto, motorcycle, home and more with GEICO on the desk.

The Independent Desk

Appointed by GEICO in September 2024, and by dozens of its competitors before that. GEICO gets quoted here beside the whole shelf, and it has to earn the recommendation.

None of these counters is a trick. The people at all three are licensed and real, and a fair number of Houston families are well served at each. Just know that a local agent and a local expert are not the same thing. An address makes a counter local. Practice makes a desk expert, reading Houston roofs, Harris County flood maps, and carrier contracts until the patterns are familiar. That is a fair thing to ask about at any counter, including ours.

The doubt worth settling first

No broker fees for personal lines.

Texas allows brokers to charge service fees when they disclose them. Our disclosure is short. There is no fee at this desk, the conversation costs nothing, and your premium comes from GEICO's rates as filed in Texas. If you ever want proof the counter does not change the company, run your quote both ways and let the pages talk.

That is the whole answer to the cost question. The reason a desk like ours exists is not a fee. It is the shelf.

Who answers on the day it matters.

The phone line answers, and it answers well for what it is. A queue is built to resolve the policy in front of it. A desk is built to remember the household behind it.

That difference stays invisible right up until it is not. When a hail week rolls across Harris County, every phone in the industry gets busy, and the family with a desk has a person who already knows the roof, the deductible, and the story. We translate the contract before claim time on purpose, because the week something goes wrong should not be the week you meet your policy for the first time.

What the third counter took to build.

GEICO joined my shelf in September 2024, when McDade Insurance was appointed among the first handful of independent agencies in the country. If that sentence sounds impossible, the whole story is here, appointment letter and all, told the way I lived it.

What it means in practice is one conversation instead of three. We quote GEICO beside the 50+ top Texas carriers we know well, we check the discount doors your household holds, and when GEICO wins, we say so plainly. When it does not, you hear that too, at the same desk, in the same sitting.

A local agent and a local expert are not the same thing. One is an address. The other is a practice, and practice is what a family actually hires.

Sources worth opening before you decide.

This article uses public source material from GEICO's own Houston insurance agents page, where its local offices serving the metro are listed, and from GEICO's Texas agents page, which describes what those offices help with across the state.

The independent channel is documented in our own appointment story, with the September 2024 letter, linked above. The analysis, the Houston framing, and the counter map are mine.

The purpose is to help the reader ask better questions before claim time.

Asked across my desk, answered plainly.

Do I have to call GEICO to get a GEICO quote?

Not anymore, and for most of GEICO's history you would have. Today the same company sells through its phone line and app, through its own local agents around Greater Houston, and through a small group of appointed independent agencies. McDade Insurance was appointed in September 2024, among the first in the country, so a GEICO quote can now happen at a desk that also sees the rest of the market.

What is the difference between a GEICO local agent and an independent broker?

A GEICO local agent runs an independently owned office that represents GEICO, so the desk carries GEICO and its partner offerings. An independent brokerage is appointed by many competing carriers at once, so GEICO sits beside the 50+ top Texas carriers we know well and has to earn the recommendation. Both are real people in real Houston offices. The difference is the shelf, and the practice that comes from reading all of it.

Does buying GEICO through a broker cost more?

Not at this desk. There are no broker fees for personal lines clients, the conversation is free, and your premium comes from GEICO's rates as filed in Texas. If you ever want to check us, run the quote both ways and compare the pages side by side. We will happily walk you through both.

Who takes care of my policy after I buy?

At our desk, the broker who quoted you. We handle the changes, read the renewal when you send it, and we translate the contract before claim time, so the week something goes wrong is not the week you meet your policy for the first time.

Is GEICO automatically the right fit once I am at your desk?

Sometimes, and you will hear it from me plainly either way. About 40 percent of the time we tell clients to stay with their current carrier, and sometimes even with their current agent, because that is the right answer for the family. The same honesty applies to every counter on this page.

Pick your counter. Ours comes with the whole shelf.

Bring a renewal, a quote in hand, or nothing but the question. A licensed McDade broker quotes GEICO beside the 50+ top Texas carriers we know well, and the decision stays yours.

The conversation is free. The decision is yours. No broker fees for personal lines clients.
