The Timeline
-
Day one, you’re bound.
Coverage is active the moment we told you it was.
We handle this -
This week, your documents arrive.
An email from our Sales team carries your new Dec pages and Certificates of Insurance. Save that email, lenders and landlords ask for those documents.
You handle thiswatch for it -
This week, signature pages.
Electronic signature pages may arrive for your file. Sign them the day they land, paperwork waits on them.
You handle this -
This week, cancel your old policy.
Call or email your old carrier and cancel effective the day your new coverage started. Your old carrier takes that request from the policyholder, not from us, and we will walk you through the call if you want a hand. Left in force, the old policy keeps billing.

Where it applies, your lender hears from you.
Call your mortgage company and any lienholder and tell them about the change. We are not authorized to submit it for you, and escrow pays the home policy once a year, so the money must point at the new policy. If they want proof of coverage, give them our fax 1.877.339.2009 or Service@mcdadeins.com.

Around day 21, everything settles.
Billing lands, records update, and we send you a short recap confirming it all.

If anything in your mailbox confuses you along the way, reply to any of our emails and a human translates it the same day.

Home
If your new coverage includes your home, these five things are your first month.
-
Your mortgage company call.
Call your mortgage company and tell them your insurance changed. Only you can authorize that update, and escrow pays the home policy once a year, so the payment must point at the new policy. If they ask for proof of coverage, give them our fax 1.877.339.2009 or Service@mcdadeins.com.
You handle thisIf your mortgage company does not know about the change, escrow can pay the old policy and leave the new one unpaid.
-
Your old policy.
Call or email your old carrier and cancel it effective the day your new coverage started. Your old carrier takes that request from the policyholder, not from us, and we will walk you through the call if you want a hand.
You handle thisLeft in force, the old policy keeps billing, and an escrowed mortgage can even pay its renewal by mistake.
-
The refund check.
Once the old policy cancels, your old carrier mails the unused premium straight to you, not to your escrow account.
If your insurance is paid through escrow, deposit the check, then send that same amount to your mortgage company as a one-time escrow payment. Escrow paid for the old policy, so this puts the money back and keeps your account from running short.
If the check arrives and you are not sure what to do with it, email Service@mcdadeins.com and we will walk you through it in detail.
You handle this -
The inspection window.
Many carriers do a drive-by exterior look in the first 30 to 60 days. Completely normal. Keep the exterior tidy and do not worry about the stranger photographing the roof.
You handle this -
Your first bill.
If escrow pays it, your mortgage company call above already pointed the money at the new policy. If you pay direct, the first invoice arrives from the carrier.

Auto
If your new coverage includes your vehicles, here is what is coming and what to do with it.
Your ID cards come from your carrier, and they are printable anytime from the carrier’s own website. Log in once, save the PDF, and you are set for good.
-
Glovebox and phone.
When the cards arrive, one paper copy in the car, one screenshot on the phone.
You handle this -
Signature pages and documents.
Watch for electronic signature pages and the Sales team email carrying your Dec pages and Certificates of Insurance. Sign and save the day they land.
You handle this -
Your lienholder call.
If the car is financed, call the lienholder and tell them about the change. They take that update from you, not from us. If they ask for proof of coverage, give them our fax 1.877.339.2009 or Service@mcdadeins.com.
You handle this -
Autopay.
Set it on the carrier’s site so a missed invoice never touches your record.
You handle this
Your old auto policy exits with the same phone call from you, canceled effective your new start date, zero gap and zero double billing.
If this applies to you
Flood
If your coverage includes flood, it plays by its own rulebook, and that is the point.
Flood is a separate contract with its own carrier, its own policy number, and its own claim line, because home policies do not cover rising water. That separation is exactly what protects you.
-
The waiting period.
New flood policies typically wait 30 days before coverage starts. A loan closing usually waives it, and we timed yours.
We handle this -
The lender call.
If your home sits in a mapped flood zone, your lender’s file needs proof of the new policy. Fold it into your mortgage company call, and if they want proof straight from us, give them our fax 1.877.339.2009 or Service@mcdadeins.com.
You handle this -
Building versus contents.
Your policy covers the structure and your belongings as two separate amounts. Know both numbers.
You handle this -
The claim rule.
Water rising from outside is flood. Water from inside the house is home. When in doubt, call us first and we route it.
