Allied Trust has widened who can add its roof replacement endorsement. Here is what it pays, when your roof can still get it, and how to decide before hail season.

The answer
Yes, on Allied Trust, if you add its roof endorsement while the roof is young enough. The Enhanced Roof Replacement Endorsement, ERR, pays up to your dwelling limit for a new FORTIFIED roof when a covered loss requires one. Without it, a roof six or older is paid at actual cash value. Shingle roofs up to six can add it at new business or any renewal, and roofs seven to 15 only at new business or the first renewal. Price it while the roof is young.
What changes on the roof's sixth birthday
Every roof has a birthday on your policy. The Texas Department of Insurance says it in one line, "As roofs age, some companies will switch to actual cash value."
On Allied Trust, the switch comes at six. A roof five years or newer is paid at standard replacement cost. At six, it moves to what Allied Trust calls Limited Loss Settlement, an actual cash value payment that takes the roof's age and wear off the check. The endorsement stops that slide and goes one step further.

When your roof can still get it
The endorsement has two doors, and the roof's age decides which is open. It is offered on shingle roofs only.
When ERR can be added, by roof age
- Age 0
- 7
- 16
- Ages 0 to 6At new business or any renewal before the roof turns seven
- Ages 7 to 15At new business or the first renewal only, before the roof turns 16
- Age 16 and olderCannot be added
A roof seven to 15 can add it only as new business or at the first renewal. If you have renewed with Allied Trust a few times and the roof is past six, that door has closed.
The price follows the same clock. The rate factor locks in at the roof's age on the day the endorsement is added, so the newer the roof, the lower the rate.
- Age 2The lowest locked factor of the three
- Age 6Higher, the last age every renewal can add it
- Age 10Higher still, new business or first renewal only
The younger the roof, the cheaper the lock.

Know What Full Roof Coverage CostsThe policy you remember
A renewal packet runs many pages, and the roof line is one line in it, so missing it is easy. TDI tells homeowners to check the last pages of a renewal for new endorsements.
I have had clients who chose a policy because it paid the roof at replacement cost. That was the reason they bought it. In the seventh or eighth year, they found out the roof had moved off replacement cost. The notice had come packaged inside a renewal, and they missed it.
They remembered the picture of the policy they started with. Now that picture is no longer the promise the policy delivers.
Who should ask about it, and who should hold off
Here is how we sort it.
Ask about ERR when
- You are with Allied Trust and the shingle roof is six or younger. Price it at a renewal before the roof turns seven.
- It is your first Allied Trust renewal and the roof is seven to 15. This renewal is the last door.
- You are shopping and your shingle roof is 15 or younger. New business opens the widest door.
- Your roof is new, a recent replacement or a new build, so the lock is at its lowest.
- If a covered loss ever calls for a new roof, you want it rebuilt to FORTIFIED.
Hold off when
- Your carrier still pays the roof at replacement cost and the contract fits your family.
- Your roof is metal, tile, or anything other than shingle.
- Your roof is 16 or older, or past six with your policy past its first Allied Trust renewal.
- Switching would cost more in deductibles, discounts, or coverage than the endorsement gives back.
We have had clients find out about the roof line only after it had changed. The better day to learn it is today.
When staying is the better answer
One client of ours has been with Travelers for 27 years. Her roof is 20 years old, and her policy still pays it at replacement cost. When another carrier quoted her 28 percent less, about 110 dollars a month, she turned it down to keep replacement cost on the roof.
ERR would not have changed her answer. A 20-year-old roof is past both doors, and on Allied Trust a roof that old defaults to actual cash value.
In our experience, few carriers grandfather an older roof for a long-time client. Travelers is one of the only ones we see, and for families who value that, it is a real community benefit.
About 40 percent of the time we tell homeowners to stay with their current carrier, and sometimes even with their current agent, because that is the right answer for the family. Sometimes the strongest roof move is to stay.
Why it may be your neighbor's roof too
Allied Trust operates in Texas, Louisiana, South Carolina, and North Carolina, per Porch Group's announcement. TDI ranks it 29th among Texas homeowners insurers by 2024 premium.
- 29thlargest Texas homeowners insurer by premium, per TDI
- 132 milliondollars of Texas homeowners premium in 2024
- Tens of thousandsof Texas homeowners policies, by our estimate
Our estimate from TDI's 2024 figures, about 57,000 policies at the statewide average of roughly 2,300 dollars, fewer if Allied Trust's average runs higher.
In our experience, Allied Trust has written a lot of brand-new homes alongside the builders. On a new street, many roofs went on the same year or two and cross year six together. If it is not your roof, it may be your neighbor's.
Porch Group has agreed to buy Allied Trust, with closing expected in the first quarter of 2027. Products can change after a sale, so ask at every renewal.
Get it settled before hail season
Winter is close, and in Southeast Texas severe thunderstorms are most common in the spring. NOAA's October 8 update puts the chance of a strong to very strong El Niño through January to March 2027 above 83 percent, with El Niño impacts more likely, though not guaranteed. Plan for unusual weather, and read what a historic El Niño could mean for Houston.
In August the Governor directed TDI to make insurers count a FORTIFIED roof in their rates, and TDI Bulletin B-0008-26 in September encouraged FORTIFIED and impact-resistant roof discounts without setting an amount. A FORTIFIED Roof, with ring-shank nails, a sealed deck, and wind and rain resistant attic vents, is the roof the Governor and TDI want carriers to recognize.
Before the storms
- Find your roof's age on the roofer's invoice, warranty, or new-build closing papers, and match it to your declarations page.
- Find how your roof is paid, in the declarations and the renewal's endorsements.
- Note your renewal date and the roof's next birthday.
- On Allied Trust, ask for the endorsement price before your first renewal, or before any renewal while the roof is six or younger.
Read the roof line before the storm.

Questions readers ask
Does Allied Trust have a roof replacement endorsement?
Yes. Allied Trust calls it the Enhanced Roof Replacement Endorsement, or ERR. As of its October 2026 update, when a covered loss requires a new roof, it pays up to your dwelling limit, Coverage A, to replace the roof and upgrade it to FORTIFIED. It is offered on shingle roofs, and roof age sets when it can be added.
What happens to an Allied Trust roof claim once the roof turns six?
As of Allied Trust's October 2026 update, a roof six years or older without the endorsement is paid under Limited Loss Settlement, which is actual cash value, so the check subtracts the roof's age and wear. A roof five years or newer is paid at standard replacement cost.
Can I add ERR to a roof that is 10 years old?
Only when the policy is new or at its first renewal, and before the roof turns 16. Past the first renewal, a roof older than six can no longer add it.
Does ERR work on a metal or tile roof?
No. Allied Trust offers it on shingle roofs only.
Why does ERR cost less on a newer roof?
Its rate factor locks in at the roof's age on the day it is added, so the newer the roof, the lower the rate. Allied Trust says adding it at new business gives the best long-term value.
Should I switch to Allied Trust just to get ERR?
Compare the whole contract first. If your current carrier still pays your roof at replacement cost, staying may be the better answer.
How do I find out how old my roof is?
Start with the roofer's invoice or warranty, or the closing papers if the home was new, then check the roof age on your declarations page. The Texas Department of Insurance tells homeowners to make sure the policy has the right roof age.
